1968 manufacture. I've had a pre-70s Gold Cup since 1989 or so, buying it in fairly used condition for $600 at that time. The date of manufacture of this gun was 1968, based on the serial number. I had it modified with a Wilson hammer and beavertail, a Smith and Alexander magwell, Zebrawood grips and re-bluing.

The base gun is a real 1911, I can't read the serial number but it was made not later than 1919, but perhaps in time for WWI and surely reissued in WWII. At some time it was refurbished with Parkerizing instead of blue and plastic grips instead of walnut. There is a data base that lists Colt serial numbers to determine when it was made. The numbers only go up to 1978, and only cover Colt's. Since most military issue 1911's were rebuilt, the fact that the slide is a Colt is no guarantee that the frame is. So right away, if your serial number says it's a 1918 Colt, and it has a parkerized finish, you know that you have an arsenal rebuild. If it is a G.I. pistol and has a nickel finish, it is not original and the collector value is severely diminished. The last new Colt M1911A1 pistols were purchased in 1945, but the pistols served another 37 years.

As for when they were discontinued, it was around 2019 if I recall as both the O1970A1CS and the Series 80 O1991 were replaced by the O1911C Series 70 "Classic".
